When they have no way out

Who’s on rotation this week Yanky? Burich?

Oh?! It was your turn? No? But I switched with you last time! Now how will Zaidy get to the Chanukah party? We’re stuck!

This is the kind of non-stop stress families deal with when caring for homebound parents and relatives. Every joyous event is filled with anxiety, because they have to turn the world over to allow Bubby to attend. Doctor’s appointments – often frequent for such patients – become full day affairs, dependent on unreliable and unfriendly ambulette services or Uber drivers.

That’s where V’hodarto comes in. They provide FREE transportation to any homebound patient in the New York area, using the latest transport equipment to make things as comfortable as possible. All with kindness, compassion and heart.

I was filled with anxiety before each appointment

After my husband passed away, it was a very bewildering time for me. I have difficulty walking and cannot get up and down stairs, and he used to take care of transportation for me. Setting up those pickups and waiting for those pickups and enduring those trips was very trying and stressful, and I became filled with anxiety each time I had a doctor’s appointment.

When I discovered V’hodarta and started to use their services, everything changed. It is wonderful to have a kind, frum person who comes to the building to help me to the vehicle. It has made it much less stressful for me. This allowed me to feel hopeful that I could move forward on my own. It has made a huge difference in my quality of life.

She escaped her prison that night

My friend is half paralyzed due to a stroke and is half paralyzed. She has no family and few resources. With all this, she spends her days calling others to cheer them up and give them berachot.

But until recently – she hadn’t left her house in 17 years other than to get to critical doctors appointments!

I wanted to bring her to my wedding. I wanted her to have this opportunity and see the world . I wanted her to get out so badly. But I didn’t know how in the world I would be able to get her out of the house in a wheelchair from her 2nd floor apartment.

Maybe I could find people to carry her? But who? And she is not a small woman and has zero mobility – it would be so complicated. And even if I could arrange it, it would be uncomfortable and humiliating for her.

But if she stayed in the chair – how can someone safely carry a wheelchair with someone inside down an entire flight of stairs?

I was lost and stuck. Until I found V’hodarto. A miraculous organization that I couldn’t believe existed.

They brought her to my wedding!! My friend had tears of joy all night she saw her friends for the first time in more then 15 years.

She left her prison that night.

Ever since then, she’s been coming to so many weddings and events, thanks to V’hodarto.

It’s not easy getting her down that flight. But they do it because they truly care for Hashem’s children. They brought light back into her life.

V’hodarto enables people who were locked into their homes to enjoy life again. This organization is literally life giving. Supporting this organization’s ability to continue is a huge chesed!!

Holocaust survivor regains her dignity

My Mom is a survivor, and as she started declining it was heartbreaking for me to watch. She has been a vibrant and independent person and outstanding teacher and machaneches. She taught eighth grade limudei kodesh in Bais Yakov of Boro Park for over 50 years.

But now, she could barely leave the house. It was almost impossible to take her from one place to the other. It was extremely frustrating and time consuming and involved begging family members with more accessible cars to come.

Then I found V’hodarto. BIG TIME CHANGE. I can remain calm knowing that Mom will get to places and to her Dr’s appointments in an efficient and safe manner. I also don’t have to waste my precious time running after people and begging for help! All I need to do is call V’hodarto and book appts with them. Menachem is extremely capable, responsible, and kind.

Many of the patients that are being transported are Holocaust Survivors. They are all B”H well into their years with weekend physical strength. We, as Klal Yisroel have an obligation to enhance their lives. Their extreme Emuna and Bitochon are the reason WE are here today serving Hashem and His Torah!

We were panicking

My mother is homebound. It used to be extremely difficult to manage in the past. She wasn’t able to go to doctor appointments or to join in any family events.

Since we found V’hodarto, she can get to her appointments, family get togethers, and other events. When the weather is nice, we even take her to parks.

But not just that – V’hodarto is there for us in emergency situations. My mother lives above my sister, who takes care of her. Once, my sister had an emergency had to leave suddenly, leaving my mother all alone. We were panicking!

But V’hodarto had someone there within minutes to take her to another sister. What could have been a major crisis was resolved easily due to their unbelievable chessed.

V'Hodarto Homebound Chesed

History

V’Hodarto, Homebound Chesed assumed leadership of Rodeph Chesed at the close of 2022. Established in the year 2000 by a board spearheaded by Harav Usher Friedman and R’ Leible Berger, Rodeph Chesed initially focused on providing transportation services with the utmost respect and reliability for homebound or wheelchair-bound individuals. Over the years, Rabbi Eliezer Biderman dedicated approximately two decades to meticulously overseeing the organization’s operations with devotion and care.

Towards the end of 2022, a new board was constituted, including R’ Leible Berger, R’ Yechezkel Kauftheil, and R’ Zev Silverstein. This marked a significant expansion in the organization’s mission, aiming to encompass a broader range of services catering to the needs of homebound individuals.
