When Home Becomes a Prison, Unlock Their Doors

FREE TRANSPORTATION SERVICES FOR HOMEBOUND PATIENTS

Words cannot express the incredible hakaras hatov my family feels about all the help you have given us since my father lost his mobility before Rosh Hashana.

After my father’s hospitalization, he was left with medical issues that needed consistent follow-up with specialists. Because of his condition, his leg could not be bumped at all and had to be stabilized during transportation, making things even more complex.

Okay, so we could order a wheelchair-accessible Uber or Access-a-Ride, right?

It’s not that simple. Many drivers of wheelchair-accessible Ubers are not accustomed to wheelchairs, and on more than one occasion, my friend’s parents had their wheelchairs come loose during transport in a dangerous fashion.

Another friend shared that even when my father’s Access-a-Ride eligibility would come through (something which can take months), the drivers often do not show up. This friend’s parents were  regularly left stranded on the way back home. On top of that, it is difficult to estimate when the patient will be ready to go home – yet if there is a time change, Access-A-Ride will not accommodate.

I [felt] stuck and overwhelmed when I learned this. How would I transport my father safely?

Enter Vhodarto- a calm voice over the phone line that assured me that I was not bothering them and that everything would be taken care of.

“Just give me the address and I will help you figure out what time it makes sense to leave.”

Vhodarto has a system that calls you the night before and the morning of the appointment for reminders- a big plus when someone has many doctor’s appointments. BH we got to each appointment on time and were brought back home safely each time.

And lastly, I want to talk about the dedicated drivers who are pleasant and work things out under all circumstances. So that no matter what happens, I know the patient will be delivered safely to where they need to go. Their calm, happy demeanor ensures my father feels comfortable and appreciated – not like an annoying burden.

This chesed service is crucial for Yidden in wheelchairs to get to where they need to go. Calling a regular ambulette service all the time would be simply unaffordable and might cause people to skip appointments that are vital for their recovery and long-term health.

BH with the help of Vhodarto, my father is on his way back to good health.
Without them, I would not have gotten him to all of his appointments.

Your organization has been vital to my father’s recovery. May Hashem grant you strength and success in helping fellow Jews who have lost their mobility.

Thank you for all of your help!

With much appreciation,
The family of Yidel Feldmaus.

They are living longer. Conquering illness. And they are so, so alone.

Modern medicine means our aging relatives and neighbors are living longer, despite chronic illnesses. But lack of basic human freedom and connection turns their days dark and dreary.

Chanukah parties. Family simchos. Even going to shul. These become distant dreams to homebound patients with no access to appropriate transportation.

Vhodarto is there for the most vulnerable members of our community.

It doesn’t matter if the patient is is wheelchair bound, obese, and lives on the 4th floor of a building with no elevator. If someone wants to out – to see family, to attend a simcha, to get to an appointment – Vhodarto’s skilled and compassionate drivers will find a way to get them there.
